
The Prairie Wind Ensemble
Founded in 1977 by Dr. Don Lewellen, the Prairie Wind Ensemble is an adult community band based in central Illinois, dedicated to bringing high‑quality wind band music to audiences across the region. The ensemble is made up of professional musicians and dedicated hobbyists from a wide range of professions, united by their commitment to lifelong music‑making. Each season, the group presents four concerts featuring a vibrant mix of traditional and contemporary concert band literature along with engaging pop selections. Under the direction of Jim Tallman, Director of Bands at Washington Community High School, the Prairie Wind Ensemble continues to honor its rich history while offering performances that are energetic, expressive, and deeply rooted in community spirit.

We Value Your Support
The Prairie Wind Ensemble’s Patron Program supports the group through donations that fund new music, a student soloist competition, and performance costs. Patronage starts at a donation of $50 and can be made by sending a check.
